Cath Johnson Headshot

Saturday, 27 November 2010

I first met Cath in the summer when I took graduation pictures of the LISPA actors at the Three Mills complex in East London. LISPA is the physical theatre school set up by a guy who used to run the LE COQ school in Paris. I loved the work that the LISPA actors did a few months ago and I was delighted that Cath was the 2nd person from the course took the time to travel up from London for a headshot session. We even had time to do a fun shot with her red nose!

Laura and Israel

Sunday, 21 November 2010

I was asked by talented photographer Lyden Yardley to be his 'second shooter' at a wedding he was doing at Lifechurch, Bedworth. Laura and Israel were the couple and we were there to record the ceremony and formal shots. The happy couple and all family and friends were fantastic company and we got some great shots. Even though it was only about half a days work it still reminded me how hard work it is to be a wedding photographer (trust me, I know it doesn't look it). Lifechurch was something very different to the normal Christian service - being quite evangelical in tone - and as it was a new experience for me it really underlined how lucky those people are that are wedding photographers.

Stephen Powell

Friday, November 10 2010

I was very happy to have actor, director, event director and teacher (probably some other things that I've missed out on) Stephen Powell at my studio this morning for a headshot session. Stephen had spent the week at the NEC directing a huge event for Audi but I first met him when I was company manager on 'Good Woman of Setzuan' at the National Theatre and Stephen was director. Definitely, one of the most courageous productions that I've ever been involved with and a favourite of mine still. Stephen has now set up an event company called 'United' that draws on his considerable theatrical talent and that of many other experienced theatrical practitioners. One of the most high profile things that they created was the Olympic hand over to the British in Beijing with David Beckham et al.

Had a fabulous headshot session with actress Marian Kemmer this this afternoon. Marian is based in Leamington Spa and happily admits that her touring days are probably over. But Marian just happens to be one of this country's foremost voice-over artists. So in demand is she that she has her own studio and ISDN line at her house enabling her to be doing an advert for Australia at a moments notice (if she isn't out walking the dog). Interestingly, her website has no pictures of her so that directors don't typecast her for voice roles. But she wants to do more film, tv and theatre now and hence the visit to Birmingham and my studio in the Jewellery Quarter.

Next up in the Crescent Theatre studio is a new adaptation (by director Andrew Cowie) of Schiller's classic text, 'Mary Stuart'. The 3rd picture on the left is my favourite image from the first dress rehearsal but it was only taken because I wanted a full length shot of Elizabeth's (actress Naomi Gilbert) frock for the costume designer. Lucky. For more production images go to my flickr set here.
